Priority 2: Increase Access, Experience and Success
Education begins with access. As part of the State University of New York system, SUNY Oswego charges in-state residents less than $20,000 for tuition, fees, room and board, about half the average cost of a private college or university. For out-of-state residents, costs total approximately $30,000.
Still, the cost of a SUNY Oswego education — one of the largest investments our undergraduate and graduate students will ever make — exceeds what most students and their families can afford.
More than 80 percent of our undergraduate students receive financial assistance, but not nearly enough to keep them from borrowing at high levels. The fact is, more students require need-based scholarships than ever before.
Additionally, as the expectation to attend college increases — particularly in traditionally underserved populations— the need to build academic safety nets to ensure success will grow to unaffordable dimensions without new sources of support.
Investing in student support will enable SUNY Oswego to continue to attract outstanding students, including many who are the first in their families to attend college. Programs that assist students in the transition to college life will lead to successful academic outcomes and a more vibrant intellectual climate.
