What is ASK?
ASK is a mentoring program which matches students with individual alumni in different careers to explore career fields of interest. It is a great way for students to network, receive advice, conduct informational reviews, visit the work site and learn the “ins-and-outs” of the career fields students are interested in.
- What do I want to do after graduation?
- What profession is best for me?
- What experiences do I need?
- How do I get these experiences?
Through ASK you can:
- Shadow an alumnus/alumna on the job
- Have your resume critiqued
- Have mock interviews
- Make networking contacts
- Gather relocation information
- Learn about possible internship opportunities
- You must have completed at least 30 credit hours
- You must have Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate class standing
- Overall GPA must be a minimum of 2.5
Once you apply, you will be contacted via email by the ASK Coordinator within 5-7 business days.
As a mentor, you will be paired with a student based on their future career interests. Students may have questions regarding relocating to a new geographic location, a specific career, or just genral advice about a given industry. Mentors can correspond with student through email or phone, or in some cases, they have arranged to meet their student if location and schedules allow. If you are interested in mentoring students, please e-mail email@example.com, complete our volunteer form or log-in in and update your mentor profile.
"My experience as an ASK mentor has always been positive. I find it truly rewarding to help fellow Oswego students find the right footing they need to start their career path. As a student, I remember that journey down the career path sometimes felt like a trail down the beaten path. Years later and now as a mentor in the ASK program, I am happy to share my stories so that students can learn from my success and make their journey down the career path a little more certain."

"When I was a junior (Spring 2004) in the accounting program I met an alumnus through the ASK program who helped me land my first accounting internship in New York City. Ten years later I was given the opportunity to give back and helped a junior land her first internship in accounting in Syracuse, NY, even though I live in San Diego, CA. The ASK program helped kick-start my career and I look forward to help future students kick-start their careers!"
