New York State Budget Includes First-in-the-Nation, Tuition-Free Scholarship Program
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced on April 8, 2017, that the Excelsior Scholarship, a first-of-its-kind in the nation program, will provide tuition-free college at New York’s public colleges and universities and is included in the fiscal year 2018 Budget agreement. The program will be phased in over three years, beginning in fall 2017. It would first apply to families who earn $100,000 or less, then to those that earn $110,000 or less in 2018, and eventually reaching $125,000 or less in 2019.

2017 Honors Convocation Recognizes Student Achievements
SUNY Oswego’s top academic and civic-minded students were honored April 7 at the annual Honors Convocation in the Marano Campus Center arena.

OzFest Concert Line-up, Activities Announced
This year, the Student Association Programming Board announced that the concert line-up includes rapper A-Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and DNCE, a group known for the song, “Cake By the Ocean.” Rufaro Matombo ’12 (DJ Tumbo) will be the DJ for the night and Michael Wade 24k will host the May 5 event.

Student Perspective: Alumna in Publishing Gives Career Advice to Students
Elena Semenza ’17, a public relations major and business minor, was one of the students who attended an Alumni-In-Residence visit with Mary Katherine Cornfield ’14 on March 24. The presentation focused on Cornfield’s career in publishing. Semenza shared her thoughts on Cornfield’s visit.

Four Oswego Students Receive 2017 Chancellor's Awards for Student Excellence
Four SUNY Oswego students earned 2017 Chancellor's Awards for Student Excellence, the highest such honor in the system. They are Lauren Saroli '17, Nicholas Noviasky '17, Abigail Boyce '17 and Tatiana Gregory '17.

Students Present Research at Annual Quest Day
The 2017 Quest Day at SUNY Oswego provided more than 400 students across many majors an opportunity to display their knowledge on chosen topics of interest.

Former White House Aide Presents at Student Leadership Conference
At a SUNY Oswego Student Leadership Conference on March 3, Ferial Govashiri shared her experiences as a former White House personal aide with an audience of nearly 100 students and faculty members in the Marano Campus Center auditorium.

Sustainability Speaker and Activist Shares Personal Experiences
Activist Winona LaDuke shared her personal experiences and provided insight on ways to be more self-sufficient during a March 28 campus appearance as a part of the I Am Oz Diversity Speaker Series.

Alumni, faculty and staff shared tips on how students can positively affect the workplace in a March 20 panel coordinated by the Latino Student Union, Career Services and the Oswego Alumni Association.

Pizza With Professionals Program Engages Students With Successful Alumnus
Pizza with Professionals gives students the ability to sit down with esteemed Oswego alumni and discuss topics that are useful when entering the workforce. Students with majors ranging from marketing to fine arts talked with Michael Teicher '86 about career options, resume building and standing out in the ever-changing workforce.

Four Lakers Earn All-American Honors in Three Sports
Four Oswego State athletes earned All-American honors across three sports recently: Jordan Bushey '20 in wrestling, Stephen Johnson '17 and Kenny Neil '17 in men’s hockey, and Brian Sortino '17 in men’s basketball.

Nine Lakers Named to ECAC West All-Academic Team
The Eastern College Athletic Conference Women's West has announced its 2016-17 All-Academic Team, recognizing nine Oswego State women's ice hockey student-athletes.
